SPAM LAW ENFORCEMENT DATABASE DEBUTED BY INSTITUTE FOR SPAM AND INTERNET PUBLIC POLICY

New Program Helps Law Enforcement, ISPs to Coordinate Crack Down on Spammers

SAN FRANCISCO, - March 8, 2004 - The Institute for Spam and Internet Public Policy announced today the debut of the SLEDB - Spam Law Enforcement Database.

Modeled on ISIPP's popular Email Deliverability Database, the Spam Law Enforcement Database contains the contact information for those involved in anti-spam law enforcement, such as at State Attorney Generals offices and the Federal Trade Commission, and legal and security personnel at ISPs. Access to the database is limited to those same people. The Federal Trade Commission was tasked with primary enforcement of the newly enacted federal CAN-SPAM anti-spam law in January of this year.

"This is a very important program, and we're very pleased to be able to provide this service, said Anne P. Mitchell, Esq., President and CEO of the Institute, and a Professor of Law at Lincoln Law School of San Jose. It's critical that those handling anti-spam law enforcement at the state and federal agencies, and their counterparts at the ISPs, be able to contact each other and coordinate in a timely and effective manner."

"I've been involved in both spam issues, and the legal arena," said paralegal and database developer Mickey Chandler, of Whizardries, Inc. "This is a fantastic program, and I was very pleased to help ISIPP with its development and implementation. I know first hand how important it is to be able to reach the right person at another agency or organization when time is of the essence and a legal issue is hanging in the balance."

According to Mitchell, all of the major ISPs in the United States are already participating in the Spam Law Enforcement Database program, along with several of the largest State Attorney Generals offices, and the Federal Trade Commission.

"Obviously, due to the confidential nature of the data contained in SLEDB, we can't name names, but I can say that the law enforcement agencies and ISPs are all very excited about this program, and pleased to have it available to them," said Mitchell.

There is no charge for agencies and ISPs to be listed in or access the Spam Law Enforcement Database. Interested organizations should contact ISIPP at info at isipp.com
