How to Address Deliverability Problems with Hotmail

1. Sign up for feedback loop, which they call JMRP or JMRPP (Junk Mail Reporting Program) via their webform:

http://postmaster.msn.com/Services.aspx

2. Signup for SNDS (Smart Data Network Services) which lets you see what they see about you -- aggregate data on sending rep, trap hits, bounce %, etc.:

http://postmaster.msn.com/snds/

3. Make sure your PRA domain and MFROM domains both have working Sender ID or SPF records and they cover your sending IPs. If you don't know what this means, you have a problem! :)

4. If the PRA domain doesn't pass an SPF or Sender ID check, all bets are off. You HAVE to fix this before you can proceed. If you don't, Hotmail is going to complain about that constantly and not help you.

5. After you can confirm the SPF/Sender ID is fixed, tell them via the specific webform for that process:

http://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?productKey=senderid&page=support_senderid_options_form_byemail&ct=eformts

6. Wait 1-3 days, test again. Is mail getting through? If it's getting bulked or discarded, open a ticket with them on that.

7. If they give you a wishy washy "it looks like spam" reply, reach out to Brightmail as well. (HM uses BM for some filtering.)

8. Figure out how to send consistent volume, stop hitting spamtraps, etc.

9. Problem will generally resolve after a few weeks of good, regular, daily sending.

10. Touch base with Hotmail again if it doesn't.
